Spoiler: Saying that we need to get out of “the dream” that there is an “ultimate reality,” the author uses Cornelia Parker’s art to describe some of his ideas about the nature of reality. To those who say the universe is nothing but a bunch of atoms bouncing around, he answers that it’s atoms bouncing around that make things interesting. Looking at a shadow on the wall cast by a musical instrument in the art exhibit, he explains that the shadow is every bit as real as the instrument and as the people looking at the exhibit.

Spoiler: The reviewer shares that this is not a book about certainties but rather is about “the adventure of moving toward the unknown.” Admitting that “it kinda sounds like the Matrix,” he explains the book’s concept of “covariant quantum fields,” which he interprets to mean that everything in the universe is both separate and one at the same time. He reminds us of Einstein’s statement that “reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one.”
